Snowflakes and Flowers

      Picture this.

You are standing at the edge of a snow glazed mountain.

Feet are covered in three layers of wool socks.

Still. The cold bites at your ankles.

Looking down, you gaze out into the white blanket that overlaps the land.

No trees.

No movement

Just you and the nimble flurry of cold winds.

Snowflakes tickle at your frost bitten nose, as they come flowing down...

Before renouncing your will power.

You take a few more agonizing steps towards the edge.

Each breath right now is short and willowy.

Soon, you will be in a state of severe hypoxia.

Squinting with both of your frozen eyelids, there is a flash of light in the distance.

 Finally.

You feel a warmth grow inside.

One step. Two steps. Three steps...

You make your way downwards.

Hours go by...body is only a few moments away from collapse.

Down on the floor of the blizzard, the light beams you in the eye again.

Just a few more steps...

You meet your hand on top of that magical glow .

The one you saw on top of the mountain.

There it is.

A sunflower.

So beautiful!

So alive!

So tender to the hand.

You take one last breath.

A petite yet gleaming Smile cracks itself over your frozen cheeks.

Your body is limp but your mind starts to race.

Remembering all the beautiful flowers in which you passed by everyday on the way to work.

You can't even remember their shape or unique colors.

This one you truly see. You truly feel.

So vibrant. So enchanting. So alive

You go peacefully knowing that you will always remember its unique design

The last breath is gone, yet the snowflakes and flowers remain.

Giving you warmth and peace in the last moment of perceived solitude

In the last breath...

You thanked the Flowers for their beauty and warmth.

You thanked the Snowflakes for letting you finally be able to encapsulate the Flowers.

A smile,

Lays frozen over your lips.

                       The End.

  1. At my time of going, I hope it is in a way you describe. To look upon the beauty of something, my wife, a flower, my daughter. That would be a wonderful way to end.
